Poetry & Art: Aged Under 9

“Food Poem Rap” by Enette, aged 7, from United States

I like to be shakin'
with my bacon
on the weekend.
Now I know,
I know,
I know,
you can't take my bacon!
But it can make your heart weaken.
Facts...
about the fats!
They are pretty sat-
urated.
Like beef, chief.
Plants are where it's at!
They have good fat.
My momma says they're polyunsat-
urated.
She would know.
She goes to college, bro!

“Happy Tummy” by Kyle, aged 7, from United States

Food so yummy
In my tummy

Sour, salty, sweet
Make a tasty treat

Salad so fresh
Strawberry varies
Fish of all kinds.

“Food Donation” by Selvalakshmi, aged 8, from United States

The best donation is “Food Donation”!!!
When you give a food one time for

Poor people their face’s will look happy!!
Then you could see the god’s in their face’s!!

But Farmers could harvest food in long, long sunlight!!!
But we are wasting food day by day!!

And we are living in home happily!!without sorrow!!
So don’t waste food and teach your youngest children!!!

“Food” by Vasuprada, aged 8, from India

If you're in a bad mood
Then sit down and eat some food
Food will help make, you cheerful
Also you'll be, beautiful
You can eat something's baked
Like a homemade chocolate cake
Rather eat under the trees
It'll make some memories.

“Is All About Food” by Evelyn, aged 7, from United Kingdom

Some foods are delicious,
Some foods are sweet,
Some foods are bitterlicious,
But some foods taste like wheat!

Food can be colourful,
Food can make you cheerful,
Food can keep you beautiful,
But special food makes you magical!

“Cheeseburgers” by Ellie, aged 5, from United States

Cheeseburgers are cheesy;
eating them is easy!
I like them with pickles.
I like them with tickles.
Do you know what makes my burger good? Ketchup!
With it I always drink apple juice in a cup.

“Restaurant Food” by Susitna, aged 8, from India

Restaurants are my favourite place to eat,
They serve sweets, drinks, curry and meat.

I like to look at the menu for scrumptious food,
I can't figure out what to eat because they all seem good.

To make soups, they use spice and salt,
They cook it to make it steaming hot.

They make pizza with creamy cheese,
They dump in loads and loads of veggies.

Pancakes are served with lovely syrup and cream,
Looking at them makes my eyes gleam.

Fish masala has lots of luscious fish,
Which makes it a very savoury dish.

For dessert, I love to eat blueberry or chocolate cake,
Into this, the chef adds a lot of creativity to bake.

I like to sit and relish restaurant food patiently,
To finish the meal, I do not like to hurry.

I find the restaurant chefs really hard-working and caring,
Even if they get tired, they keep cooking.

Poetry & Art: Aged 9-10

“Pears To Eat” by Angela, aged 9, from United States

There are many types of fruit that I love to eat.
Apples and bananas, and other fruits nothing can beat.
Yum! A pear!
What a treat!
I cut my pear, and take a seat.
And then it is my brother I meet.
“Can I have some too?” he does greet.
“Sure!” I say and get off my seat.
I cut him a pear, and start to eat,
With my brother munching on his treat.

“I Will Eat It” by Uwani, aged 9, from Sri Lanka

If it smells like fish
I will eat it
Even though it's bad for me
It's still delicious
I can feel a thing
In my body
I think it's because of
All that plastic I eat

( Never throw plastic in the road. It's bad for animals and for you )

“Cupcake” by Maya, aged 9, from United States

A colorful dessert
Soft cake topped with a sweet, creamy, white mountain
A cotton candy pink wrapper covering the outside
The mountain is white, but has been drowned with multicolored
sprinkles

The soft round cake is the color of a blooming pink rose
Inside the cake, warm, brown, melted waterfalls of sweetness
It smells like chocolate
syrup.

“Golden Breakfast” by Payton, aged 9, from United States

Pancakes
Delectable, Aromatic
Sweetening, Devouring, Enjoying
Gasping at the Golden Greatness
Confection.

“Lollipops” by Sophia, aged 10, from United States

Oh lollies, my lollies, my sweet, sweet lollies
You look like a unicorn’s mane
Your beautiful colors light up the world
And help me dream as big!

Oh lollies, my lollies
You taste so great
As soon as your deliciousness
Has touched my tongue
I shall fly away

Oh lollies, my lollies
My tastebuds feel very extravagant
And colorful too
You make me feel all sweet inside
Oh lollies, my lollies
You are my favorite treat to always eat

“The Fruity Me” by Ananya, aged 9, from United States

I am like an apple
Who can be sweet or sour
Rotten or ripe.

I am like a pineapple
When uncut, I look thorny
And prickly and hulking.
But I am really soft and sweet.

I am like a strawberry
That turned all mushy
I am different,
But the same.

I am like grapes
My thoughts come in bunches
But are executed one by one.

I am like bananas
On the outside, I look bright or dull
Happy or sad.

So welcome all!
Come take a peek
At the fruity me.

“Oh My Veggies” by Jeyan, aged 9, from India

I hated vegetables,
I couldn’t even touch them on the tables.

I was sleeping the other day,
When something blocked the sun’s ray.

It was a tomato with a mouth and eyes,
It said, “I’m here to give you advice.”

“Veggies are healthy,
And metaphorically they make you wealthy.”

“So, give us a try,
You can eat us raw or after you fry.”

“Veggies are protective foods,
And also very cool dudes.”

So, I got out of bed,
“Please be good” to myself I said.

A tomato, I ate,
It was actually great.

Now, I love veggies,
And the tomato’s name was Reggie.

“My Nana” by Olivia, aged 10, from United Kingdom

Your face is all I really need,
To jump in the treat drawer and bounce and plead,
Come on Nana please, a sweet is all I really need,
You turn your head and look at me,
Who’s going to get the win? We’ll see!
You’re a little bit silly and I know that to,
Come on Nana, you jump out your skin when I say boo!

Give us a sweet, oh please Nana,
Nana replies “no, you can have a banana!”
Oh Nana please! I say,
As I start to jump on the couch where my Nana lay,
“Alright, alright!” My Nana screamed,
“You can have a sweet” and with that my heart beamed,
I went into the drawer and grabbed the prize,
It tasted so good, I couldn’t believe my eyes,
So if you are ever feeling like you need a sweet,
Call your Nana because she’s a treat!

Poetry & Art: Aged 11-12

“Garden Of Joy” by Alexis, aged 11, from United States

My garden is a colorful rainbow of many shades
With a special touch of sweet and savory tastes.
Each day the shimmering water flows in blue cascades
Growing a beautiful organic life that never goes to waste.

Sweet combinations of yellow, red, and green
Are forming bunches of tasty heirloom and cherry tomatoes.
It often gets some cardinal visitors that come to the scene
And take some of the best veggies they ever chose.

Healthy purple eggplants are growing on their green stem
Above a rich brown carpet in the morning sunshine.
Near it is the yellow squash glowing like a citrine gem
And all the rest of the fruits and veggies aligned.

Then there are orange carrots
With a slightly sweet flavor.
Although they have a small size trait they inherit
The harvesting day is still a moment to savor.

The garden’s fresh green basil growing above the ground
Give a great taste for Caprese salad.
And the red fuji apples growing that can always be found
Give a reason for a garden of surprises to be valid.

All of these tasty foods I grow
Are always fantastic.
So this year I will see what comes to the show,
And as always, the best comes with what’s organic.

“Harvest” by Abigail, aged 11, from United States

Wake up to the frosty air,
Sister crying, “Look out there!”
Rushing over to the window.
The garden now has much to show.
I’m not tired anymore,
Into my coat and out the door.
Mom and Dad are already there,
Over in the corner picking pears.
Apples, Pumpkins, even some tomatoes.
Corn, turnips, lots of potatoes.
Harvest time is lots of fun
When you’re not the only one
In the garden picking food.
Everyone’s in a good mood.

The table’s set and we’re all ready,
Dishes of produce: Fruits and veggies.
Mashed potatoes, Apple crisp,
Everyone has grabbed a dish.
Cinnamon pancakes, Pumpkin pie,
My whole family is satisfied.
Sitting down at our chairs,
We all grab some candied pears.
There’s no shortage of breakfast, that’s for sure.
It’s almost more weight than the table can endure.
We’ve got enough to last all winter.
There’s no question of what we’re having for dinner.
The family is laughing, joking, it’s always clear.
Harvest is my favorite time of year.

“Food & Meal” by Arjun, aged 12, from India

Food and meals are the all-time great
They are the best which we eat
The foods and meals are so delicious
But rarely pernicious.

We get these everywhere
And the food comes has fast as a hare
We can get anything of food
And that depends on our mood

We also can order everything on the menu
For, maybe you have a huge venue
And you can have all the cuisine
Even though, you are not a queen

But meals, altogether is another story
These cost much more money
We eat this when we are in glory
Or when we are funny

When we eat meals, we are filled
But we are still thrilled
We are excited for our meals
And we are on our heels

So, food and meals are great
But that is what I feel
They are awesome for a fete
And that is the deal

“Food Fun” by Yue Ting, aged 11, from Singapore

With food it is fun to play,
So why don’t you just do it your way?
How about a giant hamburger,
To be used as a squashy bed,
Or a pizza,
To be used as a hat for a head?
What if hot mozzarella cheese was used as glue?
Perhaps gum would work just fine too!
What would people say if you used pretzel sticks as a comb?
And I think that a gingerbread house would make an ideal home!
Buns as chairs!
Liquorice as ribbons for your hair!
Noodle ropes!
Biscuit bags!
Cotton candy rags?
You may ask,
How did you imagine all this,
How?
It’s my little secret,
Goodbye,
For now!

“Waste Of Time” by Amogh, aged 11, United States

Breakfast is a waste of time for me,
Instead,
I can read books,
Or, I can draw drawings.

Lunch is a waste of time,
Instead,
I can write Poems,
Or, I can play Soccer with my friends.

Snack Time is a waste of time for me,
Instead,
I can practice Taekwondo,
Perhaps, I can build a Robot.

Dinner is a waste of time for me,
Instead,
I can play Chess,
Or, play the Piano.

I can’t do any of the above things without Breakfast, Lunch, Snack Time, and Dinner.
Having Food isn’t a waste of time after all!

“Food - A Kind Of Alexandrite” by Oshin, aged 12, from India

Food is like an Alexandrite,
Precious but not respected,
Throw and think 'am right',
And we are not atol affected!

Costly for people who don't have it,
Make them the rarest,
And they know the significance of the bit,
And they are the fairest!

Food is an extraordinary gemstone like Alexandrite,
But we make it like the most ordinary thing,
Heart and mind is fullfilled so we throw it,
Instead we shall finish and respect it or give them to the needies!!

“Healthy Food Habits” by Aditeya, aged 14, from India

Food is good and tastes delicious.
Keeps us healthy. Very nutritious.
Food also helps us grow.
Makes us strong when we grow.
Fruits and veggies for the day.
Gives energy for work and play.
Healthy food for good health.
It is most important wealth.
Healthy food is really yummy.
Makes for me, my dear Mummy.
I love to be healthy.
Do you?

“The Kitchen Of Wonderland” by Anusha, aged 15, from India

I was merely five years old
When I asked my mom "Can I help you with the chocolate moulds?"
My mom smiled and took my hand
and took me to the kitchen of Wonderland

I watched in awe as she flicked her hand
and all the plates and utensils assembled near the pan
She added scents and liquids of different kinds
She looked like a magician knowing the recipe's every line

"Now it's your turn to add the chocolate in the pretty moulds" she said with an everlasting glow

I did my job with full focus
and then watched my mom complete the spell with a "hocus pocus"

Watching her that day made me finally decide
That I want to be just like my mom, knowing every recipe's every line
With scents and bottles of different kinds
A kitchen of Wonderland that I soon will call mine.

“Food, Glorious Food” by Sanaskriti, aged 14, from India

Be it known as convenience food, junk food or munchies;
whether spicy, melt-in-your-mouth soft, or crunchy,
food, glorious food, seduces with ease
and ensnares with the emptiest of calories.

Disguised as a comfort food comes macaroni
with creamy Alfredo pasta, Fettuccine,
To not be outdone, chicken noodles entices
with large fattening meatballs and sauce rich in spices.

“Deep fried” knows our weakness for fat, which gives pleasure
and saturates fast foods, it seems, in great measure:
KFC (finger-licking), batter-fried fishes
and chicken fried momos - high cholesterol dishes.

Even fruits will attack with enjoyment unhealthy
as tarts, pies or pastries. That apple is stealthy!
Veggies can also be treacherous things
in the guise of corn fritters and golden onion rings.

Too much of a good thing is pizza (so cunning,
meaty, cheesy), which no one is rejecting.
The vada pav, pani puri, and samosa too
in great numbers descend on us. What can we do?

Those delectable luscious desserts that we eat
have only to sit there; we cannot retreat!
Biriyani, our decadent sin,
sweetly defeat us. We simply give in.

Ice cream, a smooth foe, knows when we are blue.
On a cone or a spoon, it drips, waiting for you.
As a lassi with the kesars, a kulfi or float
or between split bananas, it sure floats MY boat!

Buttered popcorn is one salty foe, and we love it!
The hot dog implores in our mouths that we shove it.
Masala chai, so alluring, entraps with its scent,
which wafts through the air as if heaven sent!

The standards of junk food -India's Pride -
crisp bhajis, masala papad and foods fried,
invade our malls’ food courts and lurk high and low.
Their smells overwhelm us wherever we go!

We might try but we can’t make our junk food desist.
for only the health nuts can dare to resist.
In the war with glorious food I adore,
I say, Bring it on! Here’s my plate; I want more.

(So now you can all know why I try to get to the gym a lot. Hahaha)
