Transcript

Hey everybody! Queenie here at Kids’ Poetry Club with a special short bonus episode to announce the results of the grey competition. I can’t wait to read the winners to you! Little Dazzy Donuts said I could pop in to announce them  – but, now I’m here, I’m realizing that I’ve never done this before! I first have to figure out how to play the Kids’ Poetry Club music. Gosh, it must be one of these buttons. There’s just sooooooooo many. Let’s try this one here and see if the music plays.

Oh no! That turned the lights off! Now I can’t see anything – where have all the buttons gone?

Hang on … let me try this switch here.

SOUND

Oh no – that was a chicken. What’s a chicken doing at Kids’ Poetry Club. Almost nothing I know of rhymes with chicken.

Yippee – I’ve got the lights on again!

Oh, here it is. It’s a button labelled music … let’s see if this works! If it does, then wriggle around and find a comfortable spot … and I’ll be back to read the winning poems before you can say “Hang on, has the music stopped already”.

MUSIC

Welcome back. Queenie here with a special short bonus episode of Kids’ Poetry Club. Ummm …. I think I’ve said that twice now. So, there’s no excuse for you not knowing what this Club meeting is about.

If you’ve listened to the last few Kids’ Poetry Club episodes, you’ll know that the February competition was to write a poem with the word gray in it! And so many of you did. What I’d love to do there is play you a nice cheer sound, but the only switch where I really know what it does is the one for a chicken. So, I’m going to use that one …. Here goes again …. you’ll know that the February competition was to write a poem with the word gray in it! And so many of you did.

SOUND

The other night, I got a really large glass of yummy cold milk, and I read all of your poems. They were sooooooo good. I learned that a lot of words rhyme with gray … words like day, hay, clay, pay … and then more unusual words like beret and ole! It was almost impossible to decide on a winner to read out, and so I decided instead to send a message to everyone who wrote a poem to thank then for being so amazing. Even then, I couldn’t decide on a winner … and so I’ve chosen three winners, and they’ll all receive some Kids’ Poetry Club goodies that I’ll send to them using the Poetry Postal Service.

Here’s the first of our three winners. It comes from Rosie, who lives in the United Kingdom. Well done, Rosie! Her poem is called Colors.

Why do colors look so bright in the day,

when, at night, they all seem to turn gray?

I think they might sleep. Do you think they may?

Then wake back up when night becomes day.

Rosie, you totally deserve a chicken sound for your poem!

SOUND

I chose that poem because it made me think that that I see more gray at different times of the day. Thanks, Rosie for being one of our winners.

Now, our second winner is Dan from the United States. He sent his poem in together with a lovely drawing, and I loved how his drawing was so cheerful. Here’s Dan’s wonderful poem…

Yay rhymes with gray!

I was counting sheep

In my bed and I

Found another sheep

Said honkhonk.

Hay rhymes with gray.

Clock says hay, bay, may.

Well done, Dan – I think you definitely found the most words that rhyme with gray. I’ll make sure that you receive some Kids’ Poetry Club goodies, plus you are totally deserving of a chicken sound.

SOUND

Finally, here’s the third winning poem – which is from Clara in Canada.

My cat is gray

from her tail to her ears,

and when she lies on our gray carpet

she almost disappears.

HaHa! How funny! I love the thought of the cat disappearing! Thank you Clara … I’ll be sending you a box of Kids’ Poetry Club goodies … and also, you get this amazing chicken sound!

SOUND

Well, that’s all for the competition. A big “Thank you” to everyone who sent in a poem. It’s lovely to have so many friends here at the Club. Don’t forget that Little Dazzy Donuts is back next Monday with a normal 15-minute episode … I wonder what the topic will be! Whatever it is, I want to pop in to listen to some of the poems. Coming to Kids’ Poetry Club is one of the best parts of my week.

I’m going to play the music now. Toodle pip… and see you all soon!

MUSIC

Well, I thought that went really well! I’m glad I found the chicken switch by mistake … now, where did that chicken go …. Here chick chick chick.
